Silkmore Primary Academy

Year 2

Meet the teachers

Im Miss Griffiths the Year 2 Teacher.

I'm Miss Reynolds and I am a year 2 learning support assistant. I have a passion for accessible and enjoyable education for our children here at Silkmore.

When I'm not at work I enjoy making memories with my little girl in the great outdoors. I also enjoy getting creative with arts and crafts.

As Year 2 is the final year in Key Stage 1, this is the year where the children cement their knowledge over Key Stage 1 and prepare for Key 2.

What We Teach

The content of the National Curriculum is delivered and built upon with discrete lessons, which allow children to learn the key knowledge and skills they need later in their journey with us.

In writing, we focus on a text for a half term, gleaning fantastic vocabulary and writing structure from expert authors, before using the text as a basis for our own writing.

In Maths we follow the White Rose planning and content. This is supplemented by weekly ‘Flashback’ sessions which allow pupils to re-visit previously taught content.

Year 2 pupils take part in the National SATS test and we are being aspirational by learning lots of new skills to support us in this challenge.

Our classroom learning is complemented by weekly PE sessions, AIM HIGH lessons and other National Curriculum subjects.

How you can help your child

If your child is in Year 2 you can support their learning by:

  • Practicing their weekly spellings
  • Practicing the 2-, 3-, 5- and 10-times tables to help children develop instant recall of all facts up to x12
  • Reading every day
  • Giving them opportunities to be independent at home
  • Allowing children to practice basic ICT skills
  • Supporting your child to access their home learning sites: Timestable Rock stars, Maths Seeds, Oxford Reading Buddy and Lexia.
